๐ฎ Homemade Flan Dessert
๐ Ingredients (Serves 6โ8)
For the Caramel
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2โ3 tablespoons water
For the Custard
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz / 400 ml) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz / 350 ml) evaporated milk (or whole milk)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
๐ฉโ๐ณ Instructions
1๏ธโฃ Make the Caramel
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water.
- Let it melt without stirring (swirl the pan gently if needed).
- Cook until golden amber in color.
- Quickly pour into a round baking dish or ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom. Set aside to harden.
2๏ธโฃ Prepare the Custard
- Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
- In a bowl, whisk eggs gently (do not overbeat).
- Add condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla, and salt. Mix until smooth.
- Strain mixture for extra smooth texture (optional but recommended).
3๏ธโฃ Bake (Water Bath Method)
- Pour custard over hardened caramel.
- Place baking dish inside a larger pan.
- Pour hot water into the larger pan halfway up the sides (bain-marie).
- Bake 50โ60 minutes, until center is set but slightly jiggly.
4๏ธโฃ Chill & Serve
- Cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Run a knife around edges and invert onto a plate.
- Spoon caramel sauce over top and serve.
