๐Ÿ“ Ingredients (Serves 6โ€“8)

For the Caramel

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2โ€“3 tablespoons water

For the Custard

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz / 400 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz / 350 ml) evaporated milk (or whole milk)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

1๏ธโƒฃ Make the Caramel

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water.
  2. Let it melt without stirring (swirl the pan gently if needed).
  3. Cook until golden amber in color.
  4. Quickly pour into a round baking dish or ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom. Set aside to harden.

2๏ธโƒฃ Prepare the Custard

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
  2. In a bowl, whisk eggs gently (do not overbeat).
  3. Add condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  4. Strain mixture for extra smooth texture (optional but recommended).

3๏ธโƒฃ Bake (Water Bath Method)

  1. Pour custard over hardened caramel.
  2. Place baking dish inside a larger pan.
  3. Pour hot water into the larger pan halfway up the sides (bain-marie).
  4. Bake 50โ€“60 minutes, until center is set but slightly jiggly.

4๏ธโƒฃ Chill & Serve

  1. Cool to room temperature.
  2. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Run a knife around edges and invert onto a plate.
  4. Spoon caramel sauce over top and serve.
