🧾 Ingredients
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, but recommended)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1¾ cups buttermilk
(No buttermilk? Use milk + 1½ tsp vinegar or lemon juice.)
🔥 Instructions
1. Melt the butter
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Put the butter in an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish.
- Slide it into the oven just until melted (2–4 min).
- Carefully remove—don’t let it brown.
👉 The dish should look like a buttery swimming pool. That’s the point.
2. Mix the dough
In a bowl, whisk:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Salt
Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until combined.
The dough will be very wet and sticky—totally normal.
