Golden Sesame Cheese Straws
(A Crispy Delight)
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp paprika (optional, for warmth)
- ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- ½ cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
- 1–2 tbsp cold water (as needed)
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds (white or mixed)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make the dough
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Rub in the cold butter with fingertips until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in grated cheese.
- Add cold water a little at a time until dough just comes together.
- Chill
- Shape dough into a disc, wrap, and chill 20–30 minutes (helps with crispiness).
- Roll & cut
- Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
- Cut into thin strips (about ½ inch wide).
- Top
- Place strips on baking sheet.
- Brush lightly with egg yolk.
- Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
- Bake
- Bake 12–15 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Cool on a rack—they crisp up even more as they cool ✨
Flavor Variations
- Spicy: add cayenne or chili flakes
- Herby: mix in thyme or rosemary
- Extra cheesy: sprinkle Parmesan before baking
- Everything-style: use everything bagel seasoning instead of sesame
